Best version for a newcomer?

I made a topic here earlier but I figured I would make a narrower one. Sorry if this is against forum etiquette hereabouts.

I have been researching various Tamagotchi models. I have a fairly busy schedule as a college student, so I'm curious as to what version(s) are not particularly demanding of *constant* attention all day every day. I was looking into the upcoming U.S. release of Tamagotchi Friends, but it looks a little less... gender-neutral than earlier models, if you catch my drift (speaking as a male here). I looked into iD L English versions but those seem a bit out of my price range and for something that has a lot of downloadable capabilities, having it become outdated would be a small issue.

I'm kind of at a loss here and would appreciate a little help narrowing down my options from those more experienced in this delightful hobby. Relatively gender-neutral, and doesn't demand 24/7 care from someone really busy.

EDIT: however, if buying the latest version would be good for supporting the franchise reboot as a whole State-side, I suppose I would just pick up the latest model.

I would go for any of these versions:

Connection V3

Connection V5

Tamago (although they are quite boring)

Versions to avoid:

Umino (Most definitely, one of the most needy tamas)

TamaOtch (Same, very needy)

Devilgotchi (Mostly because they're so expensive, but they are hard to care for)

Basically any version other than the ones listed above.

I'm not sure if this helped, but this is just my advice.

You should try using a Tamagotchi Connection Version 3 it's easy but might be a bit pricy or a Tama-Go they're cheap and some shells are fine for males though but it gets boring with out Gotchi Figures

Version 2 or Version 3. Version 4 is my favorite Connection but it has School and Work features, which may be a little too much.

I like both Version 2 and Version 3 equally. You should look at some video reviews on YouTube to see which one you like best.

The Version 2 has pretty unique characters and the games are pretty basic. Version 3 has more games (including some from the V2) but most of the games take a LONG time to win.

Regarding v3, am I considerably locked out of many of its features without the ability to access TamaTown? The website seems to be down permanently, and I would rather not pick it up, only to find that its major appeal, the online connection stuff, is gone.

EDIT: I watched the review and I am interested in v3. I'm still curious whether my experience will be hampered by not being able to connect to TamaTown though. Thanks!

Aside from Japanese Tamas, there currently isn't any North American, European or Oceanian Interactive websites available anymore.

I'm deciding between the v2 and the v3. Heck, I'll probably end up getting both at some point. I'll probably pick up a v3 as per the suggestions here. I wonder why it seems to be much more expensive than the v2 though...?

EDIT: Also, I'll probably pick up Tamagotchi Friends to show Bandai that there's still interest in Tamagotchi in this day and age, especially in the West!

I have a Connection V4 and I've bought it when the TamaTown site was already down. Yes, TamaTown should have been very fun stuff, but can enjoy completely your tama even without the Internet feature: after all it was mostly to obtain souvenirs after travels ecc (as within your tama intended as a device. On the site itself you could play ecc, but no great changes would have been noticeable on your device). Remember that Connections still have the connecting feature with other Tamagotchi Connections ^_^ .

Time required: As a student I can say that, for games, is much more quick to fill 4 hearts by winning a single game than filling the modern Happiness bar: the last one takes longer to get empty but a very long time to refill. On vintage versions instead, even a game played not so well should give you 1 heart out of 4.

Just one advice: beware of the babies! XD The newborns are the only ones that require CONSTANT CARE on every version... but it's just for 1 hour! On vintages the newborn stage won't start untill you decide to On the ID-L it's not the same: as soon as you get married, you'll have a baby to care for, no matter what.

Prices: I've seen V2 to V5 with quite low prices, mostly ranging from 15 to 30 $ (in Euros from 8 to 25). It all depends if you want a new or used one.

Yeah, go for a V3. I started with one myself.

I never had the chance to use TamaTown but I still greatly enjoyed all Connection Tamagotchis

I'd say v2 or v3, and in my opinion go for the one with the characters that appeal to you the most. They are after all a great part of the tamagotchi, at least for me. I can't suggest the V3 enough, it's my favorite Connection. And no, your experience won't be limited with TT being shut down.

Currently I have two working Version 4's, and they by far have served me better than any newer version.

I went out of my way to spend £25 on a Tamagotchi Friends, a few days ago, and compared to the £9 I spent on a v4 back in 2004, it's insane.

Obviously, v4's are no longer that cheap, but I recently picked up a v4 off eBay for £15. The prices for them vary depending on their usage.

Unless you aim to keep them pristine, there should be no worry in whether purchasing a used tamagotchi is a good idea or not.
All these devices eventually gain pocket wear, and are robust enough to work after a long time. (e.g my v4's are both a decade old and still work)

Anyway;

Go for v3-v4. They both offer a range of connectivity and games. The v1/2 have become too primative, and versions up from that,
like the iD, P and Friends have all gone overboard. Stick mid-classic and you can't go wrong

I recommend v4.5 if you want a little bit extra. The v4.5 is the best version I ever played as non-colour. Well though some are pricey like the colour ones. I do not recommend you to try v5 as a started as you had to raise a family and you had to know some basics of the tamagotchis. Though, reading the instruction manual doesn't seem to hurt at all. It actually hurts if you don't read it.

Go for V2 or V3. They're very basic cool tamas! As the other said V2 has the most pretty characters ever!
