Your tamagotchi was just brushing it's teeth. Perfectly normal. I think it's cute. Here is a list of all the tamagotchis do when being idle.

Baby- nothing

Toddler- sometimes practice their jumping. Plus if you have any useable presents recieved from other tamagotchis, they'll play with those too!

Teen- sometimes practice their jumping, sing, and dance. Plus if you have any useable presents recieved from other tamagotchis, they'll play with those too!

Adult- brush their teeth, come up and kiss the screen, sing, and dance. Plus if you have any useable presents recieved from other tamagotchis, they'll play with those too!

Oldie- ???
