Olive looked at her mom and stopped walking. "What?!" she yelled.
"Honey, please don't yell." Her mom stopped and looked at her.
"How can we move?!"
"Me and your dad both found better work..."
"Where?"
"Umm... DiffleTown..."
"DIFFLETOWN!!! THATS SO FAR AWAY!!!" Olive was yelling again.
"It's only past the next city..."
"HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME!?" Tears of fury sprung to Olive's eyes. How could her mom make her move?! This was terrible! She had to go somewhere, anywhere but there. She couldn't stand being in the presence of a traitor. She shoved her backpack to the ground and ran. Her mom picked up Olive's backpack. Her mom wanted to follow her, but she knew this was going to happen. Olive kept running. She ran until she made it to the pond, her favorite place when she was having troubles. She climbed up her special tree and just began to cry. She let everything out.
Five minutes later, she was still crying, but quietly, with tears rolling silently down her face, and they would fall down the tree and hit the ground.
"Olive....?" She heard a silent voice from below. If it was her mom, she was just going to climb higher and never get down. Olive looked down. It was Nick!
"Nick." she whispered.
Nick climbed up the tree and sat down on the branch next to hers. "What's wrong?" he asked.
"Everything. I'm moving.... to DiffleTown..." Olive sniffed.
"DiffleTown....? That's so far..."
"That's what I said."
"I can't believe it.... I'll never see you again...." Nick eyes widened. "Did I just say that out loud?"
Olive smiled lightly, tears still rolling down her face. "Yes." Nick had a half smile on his face, and took her hand. After a moment Nick pulled his hand away. "I shouldn't have done that." he seemed jumpy.
"Wait, why?" Olive was totally confused.
"I think Kevin will get a little mad that I'm holding hands with his girlfriend." Nick sounded hurt.
"Oh....wait! I'm not his girlfriend!"
"He told me you asked him out." Nick looked away.
"You don't understand. It's just-"
"Save it for your date. Don't waste it on a pathetic loser like me. I'll never have a chance with you." Nick jumped down from the tree and walked away.
"Nick!" Olive sobbed. He didn't even look back. Olive began crying harder than she ever had. She was moving, Nick thought she liked her brother and everything was going wrong. It soon got dark and she slowly trudged home, shaking.
