The Kid’s Choice Awards had held a call-in contest for a bike. In a flash, Kia had called in, and…SHE WON! She handed the phone to me where I talked to the guy, and then he gave me his e-mail so I could send him my info so he could mail the bike.

---

About two weeks later, the bike FINALLY came! Man, Kia and Rita COULD NOT stop asking if it was here! They also kept on asking me to buy bike accessories!

When it came, Kia and Rita RIPPED open the box, and then they ripped open the bike box…

“Oh no! It’s broken!” Kia said.

Her and Rita started crying.

“It’s not broken! I need to put it together! They send you parts, and you put it together!” I said.

“Why do they do that?” Rita said.

“I don’t know.” I said.

“Can we PLEASE put it together?” Rita said.

“Ok!” I said.

I grabbed my parents’ tool box, and I got to work. Rita and Kia sat there, waiting. They looked at some stuff I bought for the bike. They watched, the entire time I put that bike together.

---

Kia and Rita fell asleep, but I woke them up to show them the bike. It was cool. Very shiny, very sleek, very attractive.

I took it out to the driveway, and Kia hopped on the seat. She sat there, until finally she asked me...

“Why won’t it move?”

I laughed.

“Well, I think I’d be a little better at driving the bike.” I said.

“So we can’t ride it?” Rita said as tears came into her eyes.

I searched my bag, and pulled out a metal wiring basket.

“Of course you can!” I said as I fastened the basket to the front of the bike.

I put Kia, Rita, and Sheila in the basket, and then I fastened a pouch to the back of the bike. Then I digged my hand into my bag, and pulled out a helmet for myself, and baby-sized helmets for the girls, and fastened them on each one.

---

We rode off into the streets. They were packed with people who were, of course, freaked out. But I don’t care. At least I have my virtual pets! They’re all I need.

Then, a couple of boys walked up to us.

“What are they?” one said.

“They must be some kind of aliens!” another said.

“I guess you could call them aliens because they come from another planet.” I said. “They’re my virtual pets.” I continued.

“Awesome” the third one said.

“Can I have one? Where did you get it?” the fourth one said.

“These are mine. And you have to find them on your own. Sometimes they come to you, sometimes you find them, or you could buy them sometimes. I got mine at some stores out-of-town, and some of them came from stores that are out-of-business.” I said.

“They’re weird.” The first one said.

“They are totally awesome! Why aren’t there so many around?” the fourth one said.

“Virtual pets are going out of style. There are only so many left. Sometimes virtual pets hide their aliveness, and other times, they run away back to their home planets because people use them for the wrong reasons.” I said.

“I have to get one.” The second one said.

“We gotta go.” The first one said.

“Bye!” the fourth one said.

---

“They seemed kinda nice.” Rita said.

“They might be the kind that uses virtual pets wrong. Or they will be. Maybe. I don’t know.” I said.

“You can’t always trust people.” Sheila said.

“She’s right.” I said.

After a while, we went home. I locked up the bike, and got everyone ready for bed.

At exactly midnight, I was woken up by Old Dil. He had informed me of something he had to do that wasn’t going to excite anybody…
