This has happened: The Mametchi Roman has found a little orphan girl and took her home. He has also met a pretty Memetchi, and is now torn between them both. He knows that orphans must be taken to the hospital, but does he take little Jewel there? Will he make it? and what will happen?
Chapter 3
I slept like a dead rock that night. The next morning I was humming in my sleep, all drugged.
The toddler girl, however, was awake and hungry again.
She wouldn't stop jumping in my bed before I opened my eyes. I usually sleep until nine, but she was very strict with me.
'C'mon, lazybones! Can't you go any faster?'
I had fun with her a while. Crash took her to school and let her attend finger paint class, whereafter my walls were full of her ravishing masterpieces when I came home from work, we ate, and lived a little bit like in a carefree zone.
But after two weeks, Crash was convinced that the police was spying on me. He wasn't very paranoid otherwise, so I decided one day to put the hard job on my shoulders. Crash was relieved. 'It's the right thing to do, mate,' he said. 'If someone gets suspicious, you can forget the rent for a couple of years.'
I rose reluctantly from bed at seven thirty one morning. She woke up when she realized that my bed what empty. That poor little girl. She felt love now for the first time in her life, and the next thing, she was alone in a small department full of smelly, crying babies.
I'd be depressed.
I had no other choices but to feed her breakfast, took myself a bath and held her hand out.
'Where are we going?' she said curiosly with her sweet little voice.
'For a walk,' I answered, without looking her into the eyes. I felt like a selfish idiot.
She stopped by a painted red bench in the park to sing. She sang really loud, but beautifully.
'Everything you can do, I can do better...'
It was so sunny and bright outside, so I bought us both some ice cream from a smiling mimitchi's Gelato-stand.
'I'll have cherry, please,' I said.
'Ok,' said the kind Mimitchi, 'And what for your daughter?'
I smiled. 'What do you want, sweetheart?'
Jewel was a little bit shy towards the man. 'I'll have vanilla, please.'
'Polite little girl, huh?' He said. 'Polite little girls gets one lollipop for free.'
After finishing our ice creams I realized that the hospital was not too far away.
I stopped. I couldn't do this. Not after the second time she had told me that I was the bestest friend she had ever had. I turned my last step towards the school instead. 'We're going to meet Crash.'
Crash was standing in the middle of the tennis court when we arrived. It was a game today, Tamagotchi Town against the Garden.
Jewel was very interested and sat down on a bench to watch.
During the break, the children from math class were skipping around the playground. I caught up with Crash, who sipped deeply from an Evian bottle.
'Hey, pal,' he said. 'How's the kid? Did you turn her over?'
'No, I... couldn't.'
The ducky guy coughed up some water. 'If something used to live in your head, it's dead now, pal. Why didn't you turn her over? Why?'
'I couldn't! She loves me! If I turn her over, it'll break her heart!'
'That's not a suitable answer in court, Roman!'
'That's very easy for you to say!'
Crash sat down. I followed, scraping my blue ears on the bricks. My best friend was worried, I could see that, but I didn't want to interrupt his thinking.
I know what he was thinking of. His dark, sparkly eyes narrowed towards the red sand.
'We're not talking about a disrupting kid, Roman, even if she is disrupting your entire household. We're talking about child welfare, let them burn, police, penalties, and even jail, rats! I don't want our chats being taken through old phones that smells like our old woodwork teacher's breath!'
'I know, but...'
'You know!? I don't think so. the only time you got held back by the law, was the time your mom caught you on my shoulders with your hand deep into the cookie jar!'
'I know that too! But that's not the only thing.'
Crash looked at me, a little more strict than necessary. I know what I had really done. I had opened my home for a scared and hungry little child and done a good deed, that in the law would count as a kidnapping. Would I dare to tell my frend the next thing? I decided yes.
'What other thing? You raise an alien ant farm?'
'No,' I said, annoyed. 'But... In the cafe where I work, there's this girl...'
Crash nodded interested, (and a little bit sarcastic, by the way,) so I moved on.
'...That comes everyday to eat. She's a memetchi. I didn't see her last month, so she must be new around here. She talks to me. In the beginning she just asked me if the King still recieved donations, if there was any fun place to be, or if there was some good apartments around here. I don't know, but now we talk. she told me that she was new to this planet. She said that she didn't get friends easily because she was shy, and her mother was a real snobby and annoying person that wants her to got to finishing school.'
'Finishing school?' Interupted Crash, overwhelmed by sarcasm. 'She can't be THAT shy if she tells you all these things. Seems to me like Roman von Mametchi has got him self a new admirer!'
Suddenly, little Jewel came chirping. 'Hi, there,' she said, 'You're funny.'
'You're also funny, Crash,' I added. 'Seems like Jewel von Tamatchi has competition.'
'I won't doubt a second.'
'But seriously, Roman,' said Crash. 'Hand in that girl. You'll be swamped by a ba-zillion of those little ones. Are you planning to start an orphanage?'
'No,' I said. 'I'll hand her in soon.'
Start an orphanage. That didn't actually sound like a bad idea.
