Soda the Mimitchi wasn't asleep but she lay in bed. Her bed usually felt warm and comfortable but today, it felt stiff and cold. She looked over at her baby, Fizz who slept in a little cot next to her. She was still sound asleep. Knowing that the baby did not know what was awaiting her made Soda even more miserable. Her stomach turned into a tight knot whenever the idea of her leaving in less than 24 hours occurred to her. Finally, Soda drifted off to sleep. A tear trickling down her cheek.
"Mommy! Mommy!" Soda opened her eye an inch. Fizz was jumping on her joyfully but to Soda, Fizz felt as light as a feather. "Mommy! Mommy!" her baby squealed again. Soda took her baby carefully into her hands and gave her a little hug. "Yes baby?" she asked. "I wuv you." Fizz said snuggling into Soda. Soda gave her a little smile and hugged Fizz more tightly. “Where do you want to go today little Fizzy?" "Ummm...da beach?" asked Fizz hopefully, looking up at Soda with big, round eyes. Soda’s eyes softened and became misty. “Where ever you want to go honey.” Fizz started to jump up and down again. “Yay! Yay! Fank you mommy!” Fizz squeaked, hugging her mum again.
Soda and Fizz lived only half a kilometre or so away from the beach so decided to walk there. Fizzy sat in her stroller chair whooping and squealing whenever she saw something new and exciting. Soda laughed and nodded whenever this happened and tried to forget about her sadness.
After 30 minutes of this process, Fizz gasped. There in front of them, was the beach. It sparkled and shined as the sun beat down on it in a competitive kind of way. Fizz jumped up and down in her seat, unable to resist the temptation. “Mommy!!! Mommy!!! Let’s go!” Soda laughed and pushed the stroll chair as fast as she could. When Soda finally got the stroller down onto the sand, she picked up Fizz and lowered her down on the sand.
“Come on Fizzy! Let’s go up to the water!” Soda said, her eyes shining. “Yay!!!” Fizz squeaked. Fizz ran and Soda jogged, so as to not overtake her. They stopped where the water met the sand. “Fizzy darling, close your eyes!” “Why-” “Just close your eyes baby.” They both closed their eyes and waited calmly. The waves roared in front of them and a soft hushing sound grew louder and louder, seeming to get closer. Then suddenly, a cold rush came whooshing towards them. Fizz screamed with delight and Soda soon joined in.
Soda kneeled down and splashed Fizz with water. “Eeee!” She ran in the water, trying not to wet herself too much. Soda laughed at her and ran after Fizz, looking as if she was waddling in the water. Fizz jumped as much as she could, making a splash of water around her as her protection. Fizz ran out of the water and started making a mountain of sand. Soda sat next to her, her eyes glued onto the sand.
“What are you making?” “A sand castle! I’m going to make it weally big so that me and mommy can live in it forever!” Soda smiled sadly, her eyes clouding over. “Can mommy help?”
“Yes!” The two of them worked together and after an hour or 2, they finished. Both having sand caked onto their arms and legs. The sandcastle could only fit Fizz in it but both were happy.
“Mommy, is the sandcastle still going to be here tomorrow?” “Maybe, Fizzy. Maybe.” “Can we come here again tomorrow?” Soda smiled sadly. “Maybe another time.” Fizz nodded slowly, a little disappointed. “Ok mommy.”

Soda woke up at midnight and watched Fizz sadly. She slowly stroked Fizz’s hair and gave her a kiss on her forehead. “I’ll promise that we’ll go to the beach when you leave your baby little Fizz. Remember that good bye doesn’t mean farewell forever, it means see you soon.” Soda floated up slowly into the air, she smiled slowly down at Fizz, not a sad smile but a happy smile.
