Tamagotchi ON connecting

I have two tamagotchi ONs, and I want them to connect. My plan was to have them get married now that they’re both adults, but they won’t connect at all. Does anyone know why it’s not working, or how to fix this?

When you get them on the waiting for connection screen, do you click the A button on either of them? I had this same issue a few years ago because I wasn't doing that
