Tamagotchi iD v?

Hi! I recently got my first Tamagotchi (Tamagotchi iD) and everytime I search for help on the internet there's almost always a "v" mentioned (e.g. v4). What is a "v", and is it useful?

The “v” is a stand for “version” and it’s related to the okd models/connection models. 

For tamagotchi iD it has always been known that it’s just iD without any “v” so I’m not sure why you get these search results!
