Tamago connnection

Can a Tama-go connect with a V4? I tried it. It kept saying FAILED.

Why's that? The both of them have the red IR communication thingy on the top. I'm frustrated.

The English-language Tamagotchi models can be divided into two groups.

Group 1: V1, V2, V3, V4, and V4.5

Group 2: V5, V6 (Music Star), and the Tama-Go (V7)

If two Tamagotchis are in the same group, they can connect to each other. If they're in different groups, they can't connect to each other.

I'm not sure why Bandai stopped connection compatibility between them. Perhaps it was because the V5 was based on a Japanese model, so used a different protocol.

When in doubt, I like to remember that the 'small screens' and the 'bigger screens' can connect with each other, because the V5+ has the bigger pixel screens.
