The days passed silently. The sunshine still splashed through his bedroom's window whenever it had the chance, the kids at school still bullied him, his mum was still trying her best to comfort him and counsel him about the problems. But now Ron had someone to share his life experiences with. Every single little moment, happy or sad, that young Ron considered memorable, he whispered to his darling Tamas about them. The four Tamagotchis, whom he named Sun, Moon, Star and Sky, were now an alternative of his beloved mother that he can be completely open and honest to about his thoughts and feelings. They made Ron smile from the heart.

Under the care and mentorship of their loving owner, Ron, the Tamas Sun, Moon, Star and Sky reached their adult stage without complaints. Sun, the brightest and most intelligent of them all, was a healthy, handsome Mametchi who was cherished by his teacher, Mr Turtlepedia. Moon was a sweet, beautiful Memetchi and was always kind and friendly towards everybody. Star was an easy-going Kuchipatchi who was laid-back and calm, making him strong enough to withstand any troubles. Sky was a Hanatchi who was slightly on the unhealthy side, but was very artistically and musically talented, just like Ron's mother.

Ron loved to connect his Tamas whenever he can, despite warnings from mumsy that it would make the batteries run out quicker. Because of that, Sun, Moon, Star and Sky became the bestest of all best friends in Tamagotchi history. They loved and trusted one another very much, and held strongly the belief that nothing will ever break the powerful chain of friendship between every one of them.

Ron could see that too. Apparently, he had a thought in his head from the start. He had it ever since he knew that Tamagotchis can connect with each other. He wanted to try it out at the first moment when he saw his Tamas' lemon yellow plastic packages held in his mum's hands, glistening in the golden sunlight that splashed through the windows whenever it had the chance.

And he was going to try it now.

The idea was: can more than two Tamas connect at once?

Driven by the natural curiosity all young children have, Ron put Sun, Moon, Star and Sky on his carpet together in a diagonal, their infra-red lenses facing the centre.

'Oh my gosh,' thought Ron excitedly, 'I wonder what's gonna happen!'

He began pressing the buttons on Sun.

And Moon.

And Star and Sky.

'This is gonna be interesting,' he thought.

He pushed the button into 'connect' on Sun.

And on Moon.

And on Star.

And on Sky.

And...

And...

'Please tell me what happened exactly, ma'am.'

'You've gotta check my son first! Is he alright?'

Ron's mother's urgent, desperate voice rang in the ambulance officer's ears and stabbed his heart like sharp spikes. He shook his head and bent down to examine Ron's body, looking for signs of breathing and circulation. In the background, he could hear the other rescue team members discuss about the situation.

'What should we put down, mate? An "unexplained explosion" or what?'

'I think you should get it down as "explosion caused by unknown reason" or something to that effect.'

'That's like, exactly the same, mate.'

'Explosion caused by no particular reason? Gee, hope the boy's okay.'

'Come on, he'll be alright, man...'

Ron's body began to move.

'He's moving!' the ambulance doctor exclaimed with a surprised expression on his wrinkly, weathered face.

Ron's eyes opened.

'Ron!' Mum was so excited she had the impulse to bend down to hug and kiss her darling son.

The ambulance officer let out a sigh of relief.

'How... are... my... Tamas?'

Both Ron's mum and the ambulance officer looked down at the area of burnt carpet next to where Ron was lying. In the middle of the brown patch, four badly damaged, small egg-shaped electronic devices were laying silently, with no complaints (except for maybe a few smoky fumes rising up from them every now and then).

Just like when there was life inside each and every one of them.

Ron's mum tightened her facial muscles as if she was trying really hard to think of something to say, which she was indeed.

Ron looked at her with a confused expression.

Finally, his mum opened her mouth, and the words that Ron would never have wanted to hear came out of her mouth.

Now you should know what words she was going to say.

They were enough to keep Ron down low for several weeks.

This afternoon was one of the times when the sunlight didn't splash into windows, but fell on the delicate leaves of grass in tiny droplets.

Sun was enjoying the warmth that came from an object far above that shared his name.

He was laying on the long, slender leaf of an orchid, but he didn't know that.

He thought he was still at home while he wasn't, because he had been closing his eyes the whole time since the explosion.

'Sun!' a sweet, innocent bleat rang like tinkling silver bells from somewhere near him. He instantly knew that it had to be Moon. Who else would have a voice more cute, lovely and irresistible than her?

So he asked the exact right question at the exact right time and place. 'Where're we up to now, Moonie?'

Moon looked around in confusion for a while, and finally came up with a reply she thought was suitable to answer her friend's question. 'I don't know.'

Sun didn't realise Moon's point. 'What do you mean?' he asked again with a smart smirk on his face, as if Moon was joking.

'I'm not joking!' Moon suddenly shouted out loud, 'I really don't know where we are! I DON'T!'

Moon's response finally set Sun on alarm. Usually when he paid her out like so, she would have backed off, so it was always his win. But he knew this time she must be serious.

'Look around you!' Moon shouted again.

So Sun did. The results were surprising. He was gobsmacked for more than a minute.

Finally he responded again. 'Where are we?'

'Exactly,' replied Moon.

'I don't know.' answered Sun, who was now really confused.

'I don't either,' Moon agreed, 'How on earth can we be here? I mean, this is our garden, right? But we're not seeing it through two pieces of protective glass as per usual. And look at where we're standing. On a leaf, man, on a leaf! We can't even see - or feel - the bottom of our shells!'

Sun glanced back at Moon, looking highly alarmed as if he suddenly realised something that was, well, not good.

'Why are you looking at me like that?' asked Moon, who also felt the frightening atmosphere.

'Come on, Moon, this is serious!' Sun suddenly cried out loud, 'We're out of our shells!'

'What?! How?!' Moon was very surprised at that, but had to admit that it was the truth when she moved around and felt around her. 'How, Sun, how?'

'There is only one answer - the infra-red,' Sun replied solemnly, realising that he must remain calm.

Moon looked puzzled.

'You see, Ron tried to do a 4-way connection with us, Star and Sky,' explained Sun, 'and the infra-red was, like, too distracted and eventually contaminated. That's probably what caused the explosion.'

'What?!' Moon was even more confuzzled, 'How can light be contaminated? It's just, well um... light! Pure light can't be contaminated like water and stuff, can it?'

'How would I know how?' Sun replied a little impatiently, 'I don't!'

'Guess so,' Moon nodded her head, 'We have to admit that we don't know.'

'And the only thing we know is that -' Sun raised his voice.

'Is that - ?' Moon asked.

'We are lost.' replied Sun.
