starting a collection help please

I'm deciding to start a tamagotchi original collection from 1997 united states versions. i used to have a orange/yellow japanese one but it broke. A blue/white U.S. version is on the way in the mail and i have a few questions. is the original 1997 version a P1 tamagotchi or a P2 tamagotchi? what is the difference between these two? also is there a list of every color of the U.S. original tamagotchis released or does anyone know every color? thanks

I don't want to tell you wrong, but as far as I know, the only difference between a P1 & a P2 is the background. One is checkered and one is swirled, I believe. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as a site that has all the colors on it, this site has a fantastic list. It's actually a list of their personal collection. It's amazing.

Apparently, the other differences between an American P1 and an American P2 are:

1. The background, as ipickee said.

2. The characters. P1 has Bebitchi/Babytchi, Marutchi, Tamatchi, Kuchitamatchi, Mametchi, Ginjirotchi, Masukutchi/Masktchi, Kuchipatchi, Nyorotchi, Tarakotchi and Gaijintchi/Bill. P2 has Shirobebitchi/Shirobabytchi, Tonmarutchi, Tongaritchi, Hashitamatchi, Mimitchi, Pochitchi, Zukitchi, Hashizotchi/Hashizoutchi, Takotchi, Kusatchi and Zatchi.

3. On the feeding menu, instead of displaying the words Meal and Snack, you've got pictures of the foods.

4. The games are different. On P1, you have a guessing game where you have to guess which way the Tamagotchi's gonna look. On P2, you have a guessing game where you have to guess whether your Tamagotchi's number is higher or lower than yours.

5. The medicine icon's different. On P1, the medication icon was a syringe. On P2, the medication icon was changed to a medicine bottle and spoon. I remember reading somewhere that this is because kids felt guilty about giving their Tamagotchi injections, though I'm not quite sure if this is true.

okay i found out the original tamagotchi i got from ebay is P1. i discovered the back of the box has a little picture of each character you can get so thats how you can tell them apart. the one i ordered showed a mametchi which is P1. I decided not to start too huge of a collection but does anyone know where to buy a P2 tamagotchi (U.S.) on ebay or any other site that sells tamas? i prefer a white color scheme but any is good. Also dackinkayley i noticed your sig says your tama is on the 99th generation. i think that means youve breeded from a beginning tama connection character that many times, thats really impressive!
