Sapphire hid inside the old shack, trying her best to remain silent. Faint memories replayed like movies in her head of the last time she had to hide.

She was just three years old, a beautiful young girl with silvery white hair and frostbite-azure eyes, when her parents were brutally shot by the same vengeful killer who was after her now. She had lived for thirteen years on her own, fighting for her life, hiding in secrecy, and moving from Albany to New York City to keep herself a secret.

But now, the killer was back and back to get her.

Sapphire happened to be the last artic wolf-hybrid of her kind. She was only sixteen years old, but the man was going to kill her anyway. He didn't care. He had no consience.

Her eyes glinted with fury and vengeance. She knew what she must do.

Rubi crouched in attack postition behind the predator in fox form, her vivid red fur and rich chocolate eyes reflecting in the streams of light pouring through the snow-covered trees. She beared her ivory fangs, ready to lunge forward and bite. Rubi leaned back, glared at the man, and focused and then..

..she barked.

She barked fire.

For as long as she could remember, Rubi Johannesen lived in a small shack in the woods in Central Park. She lived quite simply and blissfully there. She had a happy-go-lucky air about her. Rubi was in her teens, and doing well inside the lilliputian shack. She was proud of herself, with her curly golden hair and her and chocolate brown eyes, her honed survival skills, and of course, her supernatural ability to metamorphasise into a ferocious red fox. She hated it when her peace was disturbed, and today was no different.

Sapphire ran towards the door of the shack to confront the assaulter, one-on-one. She grabbed a granite, two-edged dagger on her way out, just in case. She flung open the door and stood in the entrance, glaring at the killer, his subtle, masked face, his gun pointed at her chest. Then, something averted her attention. A loud bark, coming from behind the man. Then suddently, he twitched. Sapphire spotted a flame on his black suit, and he dropped his gun. He was on fire.

Sapphire's eyes froze. She had found his weakness, and she was going to hit the target while she could. A brief, almost evil smile crept up her face as she held her hand up to the predator's face. Ice shot out of her hand, and the man was soon encased in it.

Sapphire stared at her hands.

"Woah..."

Rubi morphed into human-form, and slid up to the confused, white-haired girl, who had somehow frozen the intruder in a shield of ice.

"Hi.. My name is Rubi."

"Sapphire. It's nice to meet you."

The two shook hands.

"Thank you so much for getting rid of the intruder. I thought he was going to break in and steal something of mine."

"No, thank you for burning him. I thought he was going to kill me."

They both morphed and began pulling the man's body encased in ice deeper into Central Park.

"So.. you can morph too?" Rubi replied, somewhat perplexed to see another of her kind.

"Yeah..." Sapphire replied, somewhat matter-of-factly.

They both trudged through the snow back to the hut.

A loud cracking sound rung through the park, and a shard of ice broke off the escaped convict's arm.

Thanks to that white-haired wolf girl, the criminal had been jailed for lifetime, but determined and vengeful, he broke himself out. Fourteen years ago, he was directed to kill off every single hybrid in New York, starting in the north and moving southward. They were considered a "threat to mankind" to the general public. But there was only one thing standing between him and glory. That thing was a 16 year-old orphan girl named Sapphira Embers. The man was determined to get her once and for all...
