Removing IDL Faceplate?

Hey guys,

I have an old battered IDL and the silver ring around the face is in really rough shape. I've been lightly sanding at the scratches and dings around the shell itself and they're slowly starting to come out.

However, the silver ring isn't silver all the way through which means if I were to sand out the scratches and/or fill them in, I would have to repaint and I don't trust my 'steady' hand to do that. I have seen pictures around where people have gotten the faceplate off but no explanation and googling hasn't turned anything up. Does anyone know how to do it at all? I don't mind internal damage (breaking the tabs that hold the plate in place) as they can easily be fixed.

Its up to you really... I have seen people ruin them and some with success. (At a low rate) Most I have seen remove it with a credit card (Type... not an actual/ like a points card/bonus/savings card) Running around the edges... It takes a while but some have had success. The "sweet spot" seems to be different on all of them. How to actually... I don't know.

You can always finish your sanding and use some clear enamel. (Not nail polish!) Then just take your time with the painting. You can use paint markers on them or some sharpie pens... Just know you may need to repaint or cover it with a clear coat of clear paint.

Okie dokie! Again, I'm not fussed if the clips holding it in place get snapped.

I am a little nervous to do it without removing the plate because my hands tremble something fierce. I am familiar with protective coating and plan on using a glossy sealant similar to what you would use on a bjd to make their lips shiny!
