So, I've bought an used P's recently!

The first day, the sound would go from its regular volume to really low volume, seemingly at random, sometimes it would fix itself after a few seconds or minutes or stay like that for longer. I opened the Tamagotchi, cleaned everything inside using rubbing alcohol and made sure everything was connected just well - the speaker wires seem fine. I screwed it tight and made sure the batteries were sitting there just right. When I booted it back on, the sound was still really quiet, but eventually became good again.

The next day it went low again and I squeezed the Tamagotchi in my hand which then obliterated the problem for over a week - and I thought it was gone for good, since everything worked flawlessly.

Yesterday, bang, I put my P's down after playing and the sound went quiet again and I was not able to fix it at all, it's still so low I can't hear it unless I'm in a silent environment. I thought maybe the batteries were dying, but I inserted brand new ones and the issue still persists... I mean, it's not such a huge deal but I did miss some beeping when I was Pokemon hunting in a nearby park and accidentally starved my 7 year old Kuchipatchi. :( (Don't worry though, I fed him and he is all good again.)

Any tips, anyone? How do I fix this?

try putting new batteries in that helps on a lots of problem
Did you even read my post? I said I've already tried that.

Also, picked the thing up at about 5AM and the sound seemed to be back to normal... and it seems like it's still loud now. Still though I'd like to hear possible solutions in case it happens again.

Have you taken it outside recently? Heat can mess with some things in the unit, which may cause some malfunctions on the sound or its gameplay (such as frequent freezing, etc.).
