"Now, now Zelda, you be good while mom is gone!!" Zelda was a small, toddler staring up at a beautiful young woman. 'Wait! Don't go! Stop!' But it was too late. The young woman had left the room. Tears filled baby Zelda's eyes. 'No! You're going to be in an accident!'
Zelda opened her eyes and gazed at the beautiful blue sky. She was atop the green hill where she had been resting and watching the clouds. She shook her head. "What? A..flashback?" Her grass green eyes twinkled in the sunlight. She had never dreamed of the past, or of her mother.
Zelda stiffly stood up and balanced her self, trying to act more princess-like. She let her long blonde hair out of the swishing ponytail it was tied into. The sun was brighter than ever today, which made Zelda happy.
Meanwhile, the king of Hyrule was busy signing paperworks and yelling at the guards to remove certain people. Thirteen year old Zenna danced around happily. Zelda hurried into the room. "Sissy!" Zenna exclaimed. Zenna really looked up to her older sister. Zelda was 16, 3 years older than her sister.
"Father! I have been reading over this paperwork you have given me and I have a problem with something. Her father ignored her, scribbling away at the work he was doing. Zelda was furious and Zenna could easily tell because she had studied her sister's emotions which most people thought was pretty akward.
"Sissy? Why are you mad at Papa?" the worried princess asked. "It's this: By signing this, I accept the offer to marry off my daughter to Charles Swanson the 13th!" she sputtered, "Who in God's name is Charles Swanson the 13th, Father?" The king finally looked up and grinned. "You're getting married to a..what do you call it...Total Hunky Boy next spring!"
Zenna burst into laughter. "Total hunky boy?" she squealed, "Who in their right mind would ever have the pea sized brain to say that?!" He ignored Zenna and continued, "It's for your own good, Zel!" Zelda was now red with fury. "Papa! Sissy is not happy with marriage!" The king payed no attention. "Oh, I don't care if she's happy about it or not! She's getting married!"
That was all Zelda needed to hear before she completely exploded. "WHY YOU INSENSITIVE CRUEL JERK! DON'T YOU CARE AT ALL ABOUT HOW I FEEL?!" She stormed up to her room. Zenna gave her father a cold look. "You made Sissy angry, jerk man!" she sneered. She flipped her blonde hair and followed Zelda. He was shocked to hear such cold words from his little baby.
Late at night, when she knew everyone was asleep, Zelda got out of her bed. She reached for her slippers, when she saw Zenna peeking through the door crack. "Sissy...don't run away...I love you...even if Papa doesn't..." Tears stung Zelda's eyes, to hear such words.
She turned to face the wall, eyes closed. "Father really doesn't love me...he loves his castle, his money...but I'm just a tool. A tool that he can use to get more money...if I ran away, he wouldn't miss me..." Zenna opened the door wider. "But, I do love you! No matter what! I do!" she cried, tears in her eyes.
Zelda still wouldn't glance over at Zenna. "Sissy! Don't hate me! Please don't!" Zenna looked closer at Zelda, who was crying, "I saw our Mama...." Zelda whispered. Zenna was confused. "But, Mama lives downtown, remember?" Zelda glanced over at her. "No, our real Mama! That woman looks nothing like either of us! We only have father's eyes! There is obviously a Mama!"
Zenna's eyes were wide. "Sissy...you weren't running away... you were going to find Mama?" Zelda shook her head. "Mama is dead. She was hit by a car...in my dream...I saw myself asleep, warning Mama...not to leave...but I couldn't..." she sobbed, "I couldn't...protect her!"
"Sissy!" Zenna sobbed, rushing over to hug her sister. "It's not your fault! Mama didn't die because of you! You didn't do anything!" Zelda just pushed her away. "It was my fault! It's all my fault! That's why Papa hates me! I killed Mama!" Zelda opened her window and leaped out. "SISSY!" Zenna screamed, tears flowing down her cheeks.
