Ok, so my dog is approx. 15 (people) years old.

She has lost some hearing and sight.

She drinks alot more water than usual and can't walk as far as she used to.

I think she has some arthritus (sorry about that spelling!) in some of her joints and seems to just sleep all day.

I know shes old for a dog, but I really want to know if shes nearing the end of her life.

I can't even imagine living without her. :)

How can I improve her health and make sure she feels my love?

Please help!!!!

Well depends on the breed of dog, but generally the old age for dogs and cats is about the 15ish mark. Sounds like they're still kickin' though. If you've treated the dog right, and kept them healthy and happy, then they could possibly live older than that. If not, then at least the doggy had a good life with you.

Although it does sound like your dog is beginning to feel her age, she is still with you. Has she seen a vet for her arthritis? If you take her to the vet, they can give her some medicine and supplements to help her joints move more comfortably.

As far as what you can do, just spend time with her. Dogs appreciate very simple things, she will love it if you sit and cuddle with her, or give her some treats and praise. It's enough for a dog just to be near you, she knows how much you love her. She isn't worrying about the future, so just live in the moment with her. These things will make her very happy in her golden years. :(

I'm very sorry to hear that. I have two dogs, and I can't imagine living without them. :(

The normal age for a dog to live to is about 15, for most breeds. Its normal for her to lose much hearing and eyesight at her age in dog years (85). If she does have arthritis in particular joints, she may try to use them as least as possible, and it would be normal for her to want to lie still and sleep. She may be desperate for more energy, and try solving it by drinking unusually high amounts of water. Her not walking as far as she used to may also be an effect of arthritis. I'm sorry.

Please love her while you can, make the best of your time left. And when she does pass away (which I'm not saying is exactly soon, but it may be possible), remember the good times. And let it out. Keeping your emotions in hurts worse. I really do hope she lives, but if she does, don't you think she would be in more pain? :(

Ok, thank you so much! :)

So how can a 'treat' my dog besides giving her people food?

Maybe extra belly rubs? Maybe extra play that doesn't require her to run around as much, but enough to keep in shape because exercise is important. A new toy would be spiffy too for them
