Pacman Tamagotchi keeps resetting

Well the title is pretty self explanatory.... the device keeps resetting. I've already taken out the batteries and reapplied them, i made sure the back was screwed tightly like someone recommended. Today it beeps because there is a ghost chasing it, so i press the A button and it just resets!! Should I just return it? I haven't been able to get past the baby stage without it resetting.

If it’s new then I suggest you return it! If not, replace the batteries with a new ones and see what happens.
