One Tuesday afternoon Kunoitchi, Maidtchi and Violetchi came to Miss Barley’s house for private lessons. When they were working on their maths work, a sweet, soft sound floating through the door and danced around the room. “The ice cream truck!” Kunoitchi and Violetchi both exclaimed.
“Can we go and see?” Kunoitchi asked,
“No, finish your work first.”
“Pleeeeeease?”
“All right. But YOU must stay.” Miss Barley said, pointing at Violetchi as Kunoitchi and Maidtchi went out the door.
“The ice-cream truck isn’t far. Can we have some ice-cream?”
“Please?” The three girls pleaded.
“Oh, fine.” Miss Barley sighed as she rummaged in her money box for money. As she handed Maidtchi six dollars, she said “You must only get plain. Ice-cream, okay?”
With one “Okay” the two girls left while Violetchi stayed behind to do her work.
As soon as Maidtchi and Kunoitchi reached the truck, it sped off.
The two girls just stood there panicking “We…must…have…ICE…CREAM!” Maidtchi exclaimed as she chased after the truck. Kunoitchi stood there gaping, she went back to the classroom to tell Miss Barley and Violetchi the news. So she sprinted at full speed towards the classroom. “Miss Barley… Maidtchi has just…she’s chasing after… THE ICE REAM TRUCK!” Kunoitchi gasped feeling puffed after her long sprint. “WHAT?!?!?!!!” Miss Barley exclaimed. She ordered Kunoitchi to go chase after Maidtchi and to bring her back. Kunoitchi ran around the corner and up the street in search for Maidtchi who is 10 metres ahead.
“Please Stop!” Maidtchi bellowed, as the truck slowed down to a halt.
“Miss Barley is really, really worried, we should go back.” Kunoitchi rasped.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever….” Maidtchi was obviously not worried, “Two Chocolate dipped ice-creams and one plain ice-cream please” Maidtchi said to the Kuchipatchi ice-cream man.
“Gah! Hurry up Maidtchi!”
Back at the classroom, Miss Barley called Togetchi and Androtchi, her sons to look for the two children. Togetchi drove his car around the block while Androtchi ran. When Togetchi was on the way back he spotted the two children clutching onto ice-creams. “Hey Guys, you need to go back” Togetchi said as he herded the children into the car.
“Is Miss Barley very worried?” Kunoitchi asked
“A little bit.”
Miss Barley was standing at the edge of the driveway, her gaze sweeping around the street. Violetchi could easily imagine her breathing fire when she sees Kunoitchi and Maidtchi.
When Maidtchi and Kunoitchi reappeared in the classroom with their ice creams, Miss Barley had a fit.
“BLAH BLAH BLAH I SAID TWO PLAIN ONES BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH YOU COULD HAVE BEEN KIDNAPPED BLAH BLAH BLAH YOU COULD HAVE BEEN RUN OVER BY A CAR BLAH BLAH!!”
“But we only went around the corner. We weren’t far.”
“WHY DID YOU BUY TWO CHOCOLATE ONES?! I SAID PLAIN ONES!!!!”
“I Thought the chocolate would stick in Violetchi’s braces” It is true, Violetchi did have braces.
“FAR? WHAT MEANS ‘NOT FAR’ TO ME IS IN MY SIGHT BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH! DID YOU KNW THAT ANDROTCHI RAN AROUND THE WOLE ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD IN SEARCH FOR YOU GUYS?” At that moment Androtchi came around the corner covered in sweat with an angered expression on his face.
“I ran around the whole street to come back to see Togetchi say to me that you have come back!”
“Sorry.” Maidtchi said
“Let me explain” Kunoitchi said. She grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and drew a map of where they went.
“So we ran to the ice-cream truck, but when we got there it left so Maidtchi rushed off to chase the truck and she told me to come back to tell you that she has gone.” Kunoitchi explained as she drew lines and arrows on the piece of paper.
Then Miss Barley turned to Maidtchi and puffed up as if though she would explode.
“BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH!” Miss Barley exploded as Kunoitchi joined Violetchi at the table.
“At least we get ice-creams.” Violetchi remarked
