Does anyone know how to fix my V1 tamagotchi, iwhen I press a button, the first five options don't appear lighted up, the others do.

OR

Does anyone know how to fix my V2 tamagotchi, there is a line across the screen where you can't see anything.

I really need help with my tamagotchis

Thats funny, because the same two things happened on my v.3 (i think you might remember that post because you replied to it)

Anyway, you need to take the thing apart and adjust the red strips (or "spacers" as I like to call them) on the side of the screen.

You might end up with a totally blank screen if you adjust them wrong though, so if you do that wrong just try until you get it.

It's about customizing your tama, but it helped me with understanding the spacers.

Okay, act like your going to replace the batteries, where there are four screws, unscrew them all and you will see a little

circuit board, make sure they are all very tight then when you put the battery slot thingy(the plastic cover that goes over the circuit board)

make sure the screws are very tight too.

Thats all I have to say D: Good luck though, since that happened to my v4.5 and after I tightened the screws the screen was fixed

I really think that previous posters have done a great job at describing where the spacers are, so I would definitely recommend taking a look at some of those posts, especially the one regarding "surgery." The following picture is taken from the website and best depicts where the spacers are (if you don't even know where they are, how do you know whether or not what you're doing is working? :mimitchi: ): THIS PIC. It's the 12th picture down on the website. If you look closely, spacers are usually rubber and gray (though you can't really tell in this picture) and are situated above and below the pixel screen. They should be held tightly in place. Spacers usually shouldn't be moved. Make sure everything is screwed tightly in place, come to think of it. Also, make sure that none of the wires are loose/frayed because that could cause missing pixels as well (at least in my experience, it has). You may need to solder the wires if this is the case.

It doesn't matter. Regardless of what version it is, all Tamagotchis have relatively the same circuitry and makeup. All have the circuit board, wires, spacers, etc. In the newer (Connection) versions, there's just the added security with the 4 screws holding the circuit board in place (in the vintage Tamagotchis, the circuit board is not held by these screws, just small pegs through holes in the circuit board, if I remember correctly). Have you tried opening your V1 to see what we're talking about? I assure you, they're there (or at least they should be). If you have indeed opened yours up and they're not there, as you have mentioned, that's a whole different problem in itself.

The following are some (non-vintage) pictures of me opening up one of mine. This is after opening up the battery cover and then unscrewing the 4 screws holding the back, then peeling apart the back: HERE. Note the 4 small screws in each corner holding the green circuit board in place, which I had already unscrewed in this picture. THIS is what it looks like after I unscrew the 4 circuit board screws, while I gently lift it up. You can start to see the spacers already (they're pink). THIS is what it looks like after I turn the circuit board over. The spacers are on the sides of the screen, in black and pink. There are typically held semi-securely there by a bit of glue.

All this being said, the problem may not be caused by loose spacers at all. We just mentioned this as one possibility, based on experience, especially for the missing icons situation. As I mentioned above, it could be a wire thing (especially in the case of your V2 and the line of missing pixels).

Once again, I'm going in, unscrew first four, unscrew sencond four, see the spacers, hmm I didn't know they were pinks... sorry, I DO have spacers. Carefully putting it back together... it's messed up even more!

NOW IT HAS NOT ONLY NO LIGHT ON THE BUTTONS AT THE TOP! BUT A BIG NO PIXEL SQUARE TOO!

Maybe some dirt got onto a part? Did the chip get knocked or anything? Maybe a wire snapped or came out of place? Has it been in water or rain?

Don't worry, it happened to me... 3 times on my v.3 so i had to just keep opening it up again and re-adjusting the spacers. It just takes time & patience, i didn't even know how to re-adjust the spacers, i just knew they got knocked out of place (or something happened to them) another thing could be your battery, i'd suggest putting a new one in your tama after you open it up, because that might be your whole new problem.

But as others have mentioned above, even though you've had the same problems something else could be making it jacked up.

Well, now my v1 has something definately wrong with it, th first five options still don't highlight, but i DID descrease the big square where I can't see anything, one stripe.

Hehe. Have faith and keep at it. Worse comes to worst, you buy a used V4/V4.5/V5/V6 for cheap and use it for spare parts.

Just be sure that the screen on that spare part V2 works because that's the whole point, right? Also, I would transfer the entire screen, spacers attached and all (and whatever else is immediately attached), from the spare part V2 to the Tamagotchi you're trying to fix. That probably means you're going to have to transfer the entire back part of the spare Tamagotchi onto the new one (you're going to have to take apart the key chain that loops the two halves together), since it's attached with wires and all and it doesn't look like the screen comes apart from the circuit board (at least I don't think it does...I tried putting a little pressure on it, but as it's not a spare part Tamagotchi for me, I don't want to try too hard and risk ruining it). Hope you don't mind your Tamagotchi being two different colors (unless one is the exact duplicate of the other)! Remember, spacers technically aren't supposed to be moved. That's what causes all the little issues in the first place. Make sure to handle everything carefully and screw everything back up tightly (keep an eye on your reset button if it isn't attached and the screws--those have a tendency to fall out when opening things up).
