Six people are at the castle of Nana Lenoir:
Nana Lenoir, 65, artist, widow, lives in castle
Mauricegotchi, 59, lawyer, very rich, very hansome
Veroniquegotchi, 21, actress and dancer, lively, very beautiful
Rachelgotchi, 42, shop assistant, shy, divorced
Brunogotchi, 30, businessman, extravagant, likes roulette
Jeangotchi, 66, butler, serious, loyal
It was quarter to eight. At the castle, everything was peaceful. Nana Lenoir was in her bedroom where she was admiring her beautiful diamonds.
Brunogotchi and Veroniquegotchi were having a whisky in the living room. As usual, Brunogotchi was flirting with the beautiful actress, but she was looking out of the window towards the garden.
Maurice and Rachel were in the garden taking. Maurice was calm and smoking a pipe, but Rachel was crying.
Meanwhile, Jeangotchi was preparing dinner in the kitchen. It was his birthday but there were no presents for him, a mere servant, a nobody to his cruel employer, Nana Lenoir.
A quarter of an hour later, just before eight, Nana Lenoir was having a bath in her en-suite bedroom. The lights flickered in the windowless room - there was yet another power cut in her old house. Annoyed, she pulled herself out of the bath and made her way into the bedroom. A moment later she uttered a cry of horror.
'My diamonds! My diamonds! Somebody has stolen my diamonds! Call the police!'

Nana Lenoir - 'After my bath, I went into my bedroom. I was looking for my diamond bracelet to show Mauricegotchi tonight. But when I opened my cupboard, no diamonds! It's Rachelgotchi who is guilty, she loves Mauricegotchi and is jealous of me!
Veroniquegotchi - 'At 8:00, I was watching the television in my room. I heard a sound and then opened my bedroom door. I clearly saw a man leaving Nana Lenoir's room. The man I saw as Brunogotchi. He is very poor and he needs money to pay off his gambling debts. Brunogotchi is the guilty one!'
Mauricegotchi - 'At 8:00, I was smoking a pipe on the balcony of my room. I was waiting for dinner. Just before eight, I saw a man near Nana Lenoir's room. The man I saw was Jeangotchi. It's Jean who is guilty. He hates Madame Lenoir because she is very rich.'
Rachelgotchi - 'At 8:00, I was reading a novel in the rose garden. Nana Lenoir is no longer very rich. The fortune she had doesn't exist any more. Soon she will have to sell the castle. In my opinion, she wants the insurance money for her diamonds.
Jeangotchi - 'At 8:00, I was at Nana Lenoir's door because I was bringing her some gin and tonic. I was knocking on her door when I heard her shouting. Veroniquegotchi is a young actress who doesn't have much money. She stole the diamonds to try and get rich.
Brunogotchi - 'At 8:00, I was in the garden with Rachelgotchi, where I was drinking a whisky. I think Mauricegotchi is guilty because he wants to be even richer that he already is.
