Please make sure that when you try to get your V5 (or V5.5) to marry your V6 that on both sides of the marriage, the friendship is full.
I tried to marry my V5 to my V6 when my V5 had all the friendship faces but, my V6 only has two happy face and 2 normal faces. Then when they connected the V5 Tamagotchi left and my V6 Tamagotchi was shaking it's head because it's friendship was not maxed.
