making connections

I am a new owner and I have two tamagotchis that I bought together. I am doing everything that the instructions tell me to but I still cannot get them to connect. Am i missing something? Can they only connect when adults? Help me I am getting really frustrated.

Did you have them facing together and pressed the connect button on both of them? (You may want another person to hold the other Tama and press connect.)
