For the past week, I had changed. I had become nicer and started having other thoughts about Melisa and Shadow. I no longer thought of them as ultra annoying brats, but friends.

But it was on that day when we were walking down the sidewalk and talking. We all had our hair up into floppy pigtails. Melisa persuaded us into wearing them. It was about a couple months since I met Kerry, so her hair was longer even though she planned on getting it cut.

Melisa got monthly cuts so her hair was always the same. She was much prettier than me. Melisa may have been pretty on the outside, but she was the perfect girl on the inside.

When she had the chance, she would visit kids in the children’s hospital, donate money to poor people; give clothes, food and anything else to the needy. She also helped others in school when they really needed it.

Kerry was a kind person, but wasn’t the same as Melisa, but really close. She would never yell, unless it was absolutely

necessary. They were so much better than me. They deserved much more.

“Why…do you treat me so well? Everyone else rejects me, but you always stick with me. You treat me like I’m normal…like I deserve to be accepted by all…” I mumbled, head hanging.

Melisa looked sad. “You deserve much better than me…you deserve to be with someone…I just come running to you when I am feeling down…I just come crying to you…with all my troubles…” I continued.

Kerry looked shocked. “…” I looked up and stared at them. “I should just leave and let you get back to your normal lives…living with normal people. Everyone runs away from you now, knowing that I am with you…”

“No!” I heard Melisa exclaim. “It’s nothing like that! We’re with you because we love you, Ennaira! We want to be with you! I’ve never met such a great person. I don’t care what they think. I think you’re amazing!”

Kerry put her hand on my shoulder. “Yes… we want you to be with us…you deserve much better…you deserve a better life… your parents are cruel to leave you like that--”

She paused. My eyes were now pure blue, I looked super stunned. How-how did she know? I had never told them. I dropped my book bag on the sidewalk and stepped back.

“Oh no…” Melisa mumbled, “This wasn’t supposed to happen!” I still stood there stiffly, wondering how they knew. Then I figured it out. I snapped and began screaming at them.

“I KNEW IT!” I shrieked, “You just wanted to meet me and then

snoop through my personal info! Why did I trust you! You used

me just like she did! I knew it was too good to be true! I could never lead a normal life again!”

Tears filled my eyes. I ran off until I couldn’t see them anymore…
