Her mother noticed a red patch on Kristen's face and repidly developed into a hemangiona tuma that covered 90 percent of her face and threatened to send her into heart failure because it was affecting her breathing. In the year 2000 Mrs Earney was told by a nurse at a hospital in Victoria to take Kristen home and let nature take it's course. Ms Earney, Being a loving mother refused to give up and sent out a cry for help on channel 10 news. Dr. Minton Waner, An ear, nose and throat specialist who had made a name for himself specialising in serious birthmarks and vascular abnormalities such as hemangiomas. Michelle Stone, US Bureau chief for channel 10 covered this story for Australians while Mrs Earney and baby Kristen were in America. After several operations the hemangiomas were under control but Kristen was left with unsightly scarring around her lips and nose and the vision in her right eye was impared. Last June Kristen and Mrs Earney flew to America once again to see Dr Waner for Kristen to ger her final plastic surgery operation. During the operation Dr Waner noticed some more of this terrible hemangioma tuna still growing in her nose and removed it right away. Kristen now is a happy child and looks almost normal, The way any child should.

I read most of that from a news report in front of me. And I saw the documentary "Kristen's Hero" yesterday and it showed the operation of Kristen and a 5 year-old portugese girl.
