Just got tama mix, first baby ugly.

I just got my mix and the first hatchling is kinda ugly, and this will be the start of my gene pool. :/ Is the first one random? Can I reset the device and get a new starting baby?

The first tamagotchi you hatch is set, you can get either tamapatchi or tamabotchi depending on if its male or female. What the adults look like is what really matters in the end.
