Same thing happened to mine. I took really good care of him it is a glitch not sure how common but I posted a topic about it a while back when it happened.

I think it has something to do with the Skill Points.......or maybe it is a glitch.

When you're on your first generation, there is a chance you can get a Universal, no matter what care you give it. I think this is good, in a way: once you pass first generation, you can't get Universals unless it runs in the family (I think), so if you're aiming to receive all the characters, congrats! You're on your way to getting all the Universals before getting the others obtained by skill points, which are very easy to get.
