How do you add yourself to your own band?

I always see bands in the competitions that added themselves as their band members...

1) How do you do that? I tried and I can't...under my band info it says "my gotchi ID" on the blank spot where another band member could go but i can't click it

2) What is the point of adding yourself to your own band? I never really knew...but I kinda wanna do it
