Help With Restarting Tamagotchi Mix Anniversary Gift

Hi, new Tama Mix owner here. I bought a Anniversary Gift Mix & had the person I bought from install the Fall 2016 Station content & unlocked Mermaid Palace & I have some Gotchi Coins. Thing is, I really wanted Mametchi as a character and it turns out you can only get him as a first generation Tama if your baby is a boy. I was given a girl. I read that if I let this Tama die and if I reset using A & C buttons instead of the reset button on the back of the Mix, then Id get to start again at Gen 1 without losing the unlocked location or the Fall Station data. Is this true? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
