This little doo-hickey here, was thought up by me, Kelly_Clarkson8, and Tamagirl_Desy.

We researched sites about global warming, until we found one that we thought EVERYONE here on tamatalk would understand.

This is the truth and nothing but the truth. This information, was collected of a website, Posted at bottom of page.

We hope you enjoy this, and we hope this educates you!

Please, Do not flame here. Not everyone will agree with you.

If you dont like this topic, then leave the topic! We are not forcing you to read this, so please, no nasty remarks.

Earth has warmed by about 11. ºF over the past 100 years. But why? And how? Well, scientists are not exactly sure. The Earth could be getting warmer on its own, but many of the world's leading climate scientists think that things people do are helping to make the Earth warmer.

Greenhouse Effect, Climate Change, and Global Warming

The Greenhouse Effect: Scientists are sure about the greenhouse effect. They know that greenhouse gases make the Earth warmer by trapping energy in the atmosphere.

Climate Change: Climate is the long-term average of a region's weather events lumped together. For example, it's possible that a winter day in Buffalo, New York, could be sunny and mild, but the average weather – the climate – tells us that Buffalo's winters will mainly be cold and include snow and rain. Climate change represents a change in these long-term weather patterns. They can become warmer or colder. Annual amounts of rainfall or snowfall can increase or decrease.

Global Warming:

Global warming refers to an average increase in the Earth's temperature, which in turn causes changes in climate. A warmer Earth may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans. When scientists talk about the issue of climate change, their concern is about global warming caused by human activities.

Green House gasses, where are they from?

Have you ever seen a greenhouse? Most greenhouses look like a small glass house. Greenhouses are used to grow plants, especially in the winter. Greenhouses work by trapping heat from the sun. The glass panels of the greenhouse let in light but keep heat from escaping. This causes the greenhouse to heat up, much like the inside of a car parked in sunlight, and keeps the plants warm enough to live in the winter.

The Earth’s atmosphere is all around us. It is the air that we breathe. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere behave much like the glass panes in a greenhouse. Sunlight enters the Earth's atmosphere, passing through the blanket of greenhouse gases. As it reaches the Earth's surface, land, water, and biosphere absorb the sunlight’s energy. Once absorbed, this energy is sent back into the atmosphere. Some of the energy passes back into space, but much of it remains trapped in the atmosphere by the greenhouse gases, causing our world to heat up.

The greenhouse effect is important. Without the greenhouse effect, the Earth would not be warm enough for humans to live. But if the greenhouse effect becomes stronger, it could make the Earth warmer than usual. Even a little extra warming may cause problems for humans, plants, and animals.

Climate and Weather, what is the difference?

Weather

Weather describes whatever is happening outdoors in a given place at a given time. Weather is what happens from minute to minute. The weather can change a lot within a very short time. For example, it may rain for an hour and then become sunny and clear. Weather is what we hear about on the television news every night. Weather includes daily changes in

Climate

Climate describes the total of all weather occurring over a period of years in a given place. This includes average weather conditions, regular weather sequences (like winter, spring, summer, and fall), and special weather events (like tornadoes and floods). Climate tells us what it's usually like in the place where you live.

Once, all climate changes occurred naturally. However, during the 1. Industrial Revolution, we began altering our climate and environment through agricultural and industrial practices. The Industrial Revolution was a time when people began using machines to make life easier. It started more than 200 years ago and changed the way humans live. Before the Industrial Revolution, human activity released very few gases into the atmosphere, but now through population growth, fossil fuel burning, and deforestation, we are affecting the mixture of gases in the atmosphere.

Since the Industrial Revolution, the need for energy to run machines has steadily increased. Some energy, like the energy you need to do your homework, comes from the food you eat. But other energy, like the energy that makes cars run and much of the energy used to light and heat our homes, comes from fuels like coal and oil – fossil fuels. Burning these fuels releases greenhouse gases.

When Do You Send Greenhouse Gases into the Air?

Whenever you ...

Watch TV

Use the Air Conditioner

Turn on a Light

Use a Hair Dryer

Ride in a Car

Play a Video Game

Listen to a Stereo

Wash or Dry Clothes

Use a Dish Washer

Microwave a Meal

... you are helping to send greenhouse gas into the air.

To perform many of these functions, you need to use electricity. Electricity comes from power plants. Most power plants use coal and oil to make electricity. Burning coal and oil produces greenhouse gases.

What Might Happen If Global Warming Continues?? It is important to understand that scientists don't know for sure what climate change will bring. Some changes brought about by climate change will be good. If you live in a very cool climate, warmer temperatures might be welcome. Days and nights could be more comfortable and people in the area may be able to grow different and better crops than they could before. But it is also true that changes in some places will not be very good at all.

i dislike this global warming. people say that icebergs are melting and stuff from it. we should really do something because the next generation, which is all the people who are young will see the effects of it if we all dont do anything.

Actually, We 'are' the generation. Don't sit and wait for someone else to fix it, because that sad thing is, nobody is.

Our generation has already seen the effects. Have you noticed how little snow we've gotten?

Well, I think we should avoid using these stuff all the time. People should recycle some more... Use fire, use candels, take a shower instead of a bath. And many more.. Stop using much eletcrial stuff.

P.S. Showers use less water than baths. (THIS MAY NOT RELEATE TO GLOBAL WARMING).

yes, that what i mean, this generation. plus it is sort of the opposite in some places. some places are usually warm and now those places are getting a lot of snow, like last time in my area.

Yes.

If we don't do something, there will be more typhoons and natural diasters, Some dry lands will flood, some wet lands will dry.

Global warming is turning everything around.

actualy, it alomst snowed here- it NEVER snows.

personaly, i hate this kinda talk.

everyone gets all freeked out and it just really bugs me.

alltho people say its a fact, it could be happening, but the greenhouse effect and such are just theories, i dont think you could ever really make that theorty a "fact" kinda like evolution.

sure, it could be that, but it could also just be a trend in the weather.

i dont really care.

yes, i want to take care and repect God's creation, but the world will end when it ends.

He made the earth- He could blow it up this second, or He can have earth still here millions of years later.

we cant really "stop" it if it is happening.

if you really wanted this to stop, well you have to take away ALL of these

*cars (want to walk thru 2 other cities to get to your school? i dont)

*no electricity (uh, yeah, dont think so

*no cows (or make a no fart law XD)

*no machines

*no computers (cuz no electricity)

etc

it would be like the olden days, they didnt go places like we do now because guess what- no electricity.

it would take hours on a horse, just to get to school. you couldnt see family, you couldnt even go to the store except for once a month.

you wouldnt shower for weeks, couldnt go to your distant friends house. the list goes on and on.

we cant just give that all up.

we wouldnt be able to survive because that would be a HUGE change.

everyone would have to do farming the old skool way but how many people walking on the street know how to farm? or keep animals for food?

if this is happening, someone go make a water powered... well water powered everything, but then we run into the problem of water usage.

you can conserve, but you cant just stop.

Thats a great idea. We need to take action. Here are two great sites. Climate Crisis. (An Inconvienient truth) Save Our Climate (WWF)

I totally agree to these replies.

We ARE the next generation, like Kelly_Clarkson8 said.

We have seen the effects of the last generation.

and the new good things we got because of it.

Like cars.

Although, those new things could be hurting our ozone layer, and later, US -most likely your grandchildren

You see,

when we don't recycle,

when we litter,

when we use too much electricity,

when we use ANYTHING powered by gas, and a lot more,

all of those things go up into the air,

which later pentrate our ozone layer.

The ozone layer is one of the earth's atmospheres,

and when it gets hurt too much,

the strongest rayes of the sun, which are usually blocked by the ozone layer,

will hit the icer bergs.

And guess what happens then?

They melt!

There are so many icebergs that are so huge,

that they could cover the whole Earth with water,

soon killing off the population.

Sure, using the new technology and invents from previous generators,[like cars] are faster and more in use,

but don't you think that is being a bit selfish?

We don't want US to die,

but we KNOW that what we are doing is causing global warming.

And yet, we still use those things.

Just because they are faster for us.

Our actions could either help save the future generations ahead of us,

or make them worse.

We ARE the generation,

and we have to take a stand,

to correct the things previous generations have done.

After all, if we don't, who will?

I disagree with what tamaw/pants said,

she/he said things about computers and cars.

If we never had them,

we wouldn't really care.

We wouldn't say, oh, i wish we had a car.

Becuase it wouldn't have been invented.

But just because those things suit OUR needs best and have already been invented,

we need to think of what is best.

If you didn't have cars,

sure,

you wouldn't be able to go and do all the great things we do today.

But isn't that just a tad bit selfish?

We are not talking about 1 car, we are talking about ALL the cars on EARTH!

and just because it suits our needs,

and helps us get to other places faster,

We are putting OUR needs ahead of our future grandchildren!!!

We will soon be the past, not the generation.

and we may not be alive to see it,

but our future grandchildren will have to suffer from the selfishness of our needs.

We should invent those things like cars,

and make them into things powered by different things, not gas or anything else farmful to the enviroment.

Like Hybred[sp?]

it has been invented,

but most people can't afford to buy them or just don't care.

Although, I do agree with tamaw/pants about we cant stop it.

Yes, we can not stop it, but we can conserve.

And as everyone can see by our weather changes,

We are not doing a very good job of conserving it.

Sorry for the long post,

but i had to put my feelings on this issue forth.

Thank you all for your time,

Thanks. ^^

I hate global warming. All animals which live in the cold areas (such as polar bears) will die of warmness. I believe the Greenhouse effect is because George W. Bush causes it to.
//TamaPATCHI
exscuse me, you cause it.

tell me, are you using a computer right now?

do use transportation that uses gas?

are your lights on?

all this green house effect, global warming stuff, isnt one persons fault- its everyones.

so please, dont try make a scape goat, its not appreciated.

you couldnt do any better job then he could anyways.
