Fimor's CUSTOM virtual pets thread (´･ω･`)

Hi Tamafriends!! (´･ω･`)

We're developing several custom virtual pets based in the vintage ones using a custom board and programming called "atmega" :3

Our main objective is to try to reproduce the rarest vintage virtual pets, so everyone would enjoy them without selling a kidney or their home to have one :3

We're also trying to make our pets as closer as possible of original ones, but at same time giving our pets several additions and some twists to make them fresh :3



This one for example is a MGA PET that gives you all eight official MGA pets to choose from, complete with all evolutions, plus a very rare unnoficial Baby variant only found in some rare chinese pets :3

in this one, we've also fixed lots of sprites, added others to fit better the MGA style, several options including language change, backlight, etc :3

We're also making our own version of the DINKIE 8 IN 1, having all features of the original (even those wonderful and unique sounds!!) but with a twist:
Do you guys remember that the original 8 in 1 have only one growth path to every one of the 8 pet choices? here we ADDED two more different adults to all the four new pets there (Deer, shark, bear, elephant) complete with unique animations (unlike the original 4 and 8 in 1) and added THREE MORE EVOLUTION PATHS to dino and dog!!
here you can see a unique teen evolution of the dog plus the final evolution of this path :3

i am very glad youre making this thread, bc i found your instagram looking for info on chip dumping and custom tama making a few months ago. i'm an illustrator that, unfortunately, knows nothing about coding. but im willing to learn, especially if your team is looking to make the knowledge public for others to make their own vpets!

but i am curious, you said you were able to add more to the dinkie 8 in 1, which is absolutely awesome in every way, but does that mean you dumped the contents of the original chip to be able to edit it? i'd love a tutorial on that! i have a pretty big collection, and i want to archive the data.

Fimor (our developer) Thinks in releasing the source code of the pets we will be developing, and if i record well, the models of componets and the board, so everyone will be able to make their own pets :3
Would be very nice to see others developing their own pets, and since you're an artist you could have no problem developing a pet, specialy the sprites!

We're not dumping the original pet data, it seems to be impossible to be done without killing it ahhahha so we're doing it from scratch, understanding how the pet works and programming and changing things we decide that are not good. Do you remember how the termostat works in these pets? if the temperature is too high and you change it before the pet starts yelling, it will not decrease at all. it's a design error that we fixed!
i think you'll also be able to edit their sprites and create your own pets thi way!! :3

Hi, long time no see :3

Our team grew a little, we found several new members willing to help our project grow, and now we officialy named it MEGAPETS project!!

We also shifted our focus to preserve the programmings of various rare virtual pets, and make upgraded versions of some existing ones, depending of the demand :3

These pets will still be opensource and also the libraries will be free to everyone, but to be modified a bit of programming skills will be needed, since to make something that would be edited without programming, an "Engine" should be developed for that ;u;

-The first pet, based in the MGA programming, is pratically complete regarding programming. It was already sent to several people to test and after some feedback, we decided to transfer it to a new hardware, since we not liked how the screen works, and decided to make the shell less bulky.

-the 2nd pet is based in "Dinkie" 8 in 1 and will have many more evolutions and also a kitty with their own food and animations. it's programming is roughly 75% complete, and needs lots of tweaks and tests. kinda sure that will use the same hardware.

Until the new board and screen be ready, we already started the programming of another pet, this time being based in the "RikouRikou chan / Smarty Time" .

These pets are awesome but unfortunately, really plagued with glitches that damages you progress in the game, and also kinda boring to play.

Our objective is to fuse the two versions in one device, since they have many differences between them (musics, images, evolutions and animations, games) and also add something new to them: GIRLS!!!
theese pets will allow to select two boys (jap and eng) and also two girls (jap and eng) with new features between them!!

Do you have any suggestion to make this pet more fun to play?? please comment!!

A size comparison between the old and new prototypes, Fimor added a new screen with better quality, and remade the entire board to make it more slim, now the pet had a considerable decrease in size and increase in quality of hardware :3
The shell is not final and is still a prototype yet :V

And even the devil Tama! I own an a Devilgotchi so I can experiment with stuff and contribute to the project with information and footage of animations and such(I should note that I'm not willing to lend out my devil as they are expensive, but I'm happy to help out how I can otherwise).
It'd be awesome for others to be able to enjoy the devils without being forced into dropping $450+ for one.

Speaking of absolutely wild prices, maybe some of the Digimon virtual pets should be considered for remakes. I've never seen a older release go for a reasonable price.
