Do Tamagotchi Friends and 4U lines communicate?

My husband is pretty keen on getting a 4U+ but I am wanting to get a Dream Town Friends with our son so I can teach him how to take care of something. My husband also said he won't even get a Tama at all if he can't connect with the US Dream Town models as our son and I can't read Japanese.

The 4U and 4U+ can't connect with the Dream Town Friends unfortunately. The Dream Town can only connect with the original Tamagotchi Friends, and other Dream Town Friend's.
