I was told to timeout my tamagotchis when they poop and that would help the get more training points. Is this true? or do you only get training points for giving timeout when they ask for attention when it is not needed or for food when they are not hungry?

Nope that's not true at all. It's only required like you said: when they ask for attention when it is not needed or when they won't eat food when they are hungry.

I only give my tama time out when i need to in order to increase his training bar. other than that i dont time out cuz there is no valid point to do it.
