my tamagotchi has pooped but he is sleeping...and it won't let me clean up...do I have to wait until he wakes up

Yeah. You have to wait till it wakes up to clean it up..

Tip:

Turn off the lights when your Tamagotchi is sleeping.

You can change the time to when your Tamagotchi is awake, then clean it, then again change the time to normal. So then the Poop is cleaned up.
