i'm going to either learn Chinese or Spanish next year.

Go for Chinese. I'm completing my 4th semester of Mandarin Chinese in college right now, I've actually taken all the Chinese courses that they offer. It is a language that is rapidly becoming very important to know. It is a huge challenge, among the world's most difficult languages to learn. BUT, it is very rewarding, and you will benefit from it for sure.

I've become a very fluent speaker, both of my professors from China say I sound like a native speaker...but my characters(the written part) are TERRIBLE!! I mean seriously, I am bad at it. But, with practice, they will improve. It's a lot of work to learn Chinese. especially as you progress through the higher levels, but you will love it!
