I was about to slash Baines with my sharp sword before somebody yelled, 'STOP!' I don't know who it was or where they said it from, but I decided to stop. Baines and all of the other people chasing after me, lifted masks off their heads. They were all my friends. In unison they all shouted, 'April Fools!' I'd forgotten all about it being April Fools Day, and my birthday!
'This must have been quite difficult to plan,' I said to my friend Marco who had pretended to be Baines.
'Tell me about it,' he replied, 'We needed someone to almost run you over with a lawnmower, people to not respond to you talking in the cafe, hundreds of lab workers and lots of just ordinary people to ignore you completely. You're not really a ghost!' I gave a sigh of relief but then gasped.
'You've done so much damage!' I yelled unhappily, 'You destroyed the cafe and that fire by now has probably destroyed half of town. Not to mention what you did to my car!'
'We'll pay for the repairs to your car,' Millie (Vicky) replied, 'And there's someone we'd like you to meet.' The removal man still had his mask on but as he removed it I gasped at who I saw.
'The shop owner!' I said. He nodded and explained to me.
'My shop is being demolished anyway to be replaced with a big shopping mall, I was grateful of any help to demolish it.' Chris (my boss), who was the man seen with Baines in the car park commented, 'This joke cost over £10,000 to pull off. Bet you can't top that next year!' We all laughed together. I took everyone to a nice restaurant and paid for all of their meals. That cost a fortume but I didn't mind, it was a weight off my mind that I wasn't dead! When we were sitting down, I asked Marco a question.
'So, were the glasses just normal glasses?' Marco giggled and so did everyone else.
'They're just binoculars with straps on!' So that was the end of a very long day. I got the job I should have interviewed for (several hours earlier) and it was overall a great birthday.
Remember Part 1? Something leapt out at Baines. See The Return of Baines, out in March for more details!
