Part 14-2
There were about 5 police cars following us and signalling us to pull over. As soon as possible, Victoria skidded the Mondeo over to the side of the road. My heart began to beat faster and faster (not for the first time I might add). I expected to see Baines rushing out of one of the police cars accusing Victoria of something to get his hands on me, but he didn’t. A policeman did climb out though and come over to Victoria. This policeman couldn’t have been working for Baines as he wasn’t wearing glasses.
‘Can I see your driving license madame?’ the policeman asked. Victoria opened up a wallet that she had concealed in the pocket of her expensive jacket. She took out a drivers’ license and handed it to the cop. He studied it and handed it back to her.
‘Alright,’ he said, ‘Carry on. But don’t speed.’ My heart began to beat at its normal rate again. Everything was ok. Well, it was until we looked at the road ahead. And saw it. A massive building site, with Baines, the removal man (don’t ask me how he got there) and that other man I’d seen with Baines standing there. I was scared. Very scared
Part 14-3
‘Nice one Vicky,’ the man I saw with Baines earlier said, ‘Now get out of the car. Don’t want a pretty thing like you getting hurt.’ Victoria got out of the car and picked up a gun from a wooden shelf in the building site. The other 3 picked up one too. All four of them were wearing the glasses so they could see me perfectly. They pointed the guns at me, ready to shoot. They must have been planning this for ages. Victoria though! She betrayed me. I honestly believed she loved me. Without warning, I did something very reckless. I leapt over into the driving site and started the engine. I put my foot down and made a U turn with the car and began to drive away. I was saved.
‘Shoot!’ I heard Baines scream. Bullets started to hit my car. I heard shattering of glass. I glanced over my shoulder, only to find that they had smashed holes in my back window. I quickly escaped from the scene but I heard cars revving. They must have been coming after me.
Part 14-4
I was far away from the building site now. I could see pedestrians walking along the pavement. Their mouths dropped open as they saw no driver in my car. But I didn’t care. All I wanted to do was escape with my life. Things went through my mind. Victoria, all her lies. I mean, was she lying to me? Can I only be heard/seen with the glasses? How many pairs of those glasses are there? Why didn’t I remember anything of the last 5 years? So many questions, so little time to answer them as I saw in my rear view mirror, Baines and Victoria speeding towards me in a car.
They were gaining on me. They were about to kill me! I couldn’t go any faster than 100mph (160km/h), no matter how hard I tried. I tried to make unusual movements in my car to loose them but I couldn’t. They just kept following me. I saw Victoria holding a gun and pointing it at me. She began to pull the trigger back. I turned around and shook my head. But I was too busy making sure that she didn’t shoot that I stopped paying attention on the road. And crashed.
