Part 9-4
'You work for him!' I shouted. I couldn't control my anger any longer. To my surprise, nobody turned around and stared at me. A tear rolled down her cheek. I noticed that she hadn't stopped crying from earlier. She sobbed and sobbed, much to the attention of the barmaid, who chose not to comfort her, neither did any of the diners.
'It's not what you think it is,' she cried through loud sobs, 'I'm tricking him. He's really working for me. I'm trying to find out all he knows and use it against him. Use it to save you.' I sighed, feeling guilty from suspecting her in the first place. We hugged and then she pecked me on the cheek.
'Why are you doing this?' I said in a hushed voice. She sobbed again. I comforted her, not for the first time.
'Don't you remember?' she asked, 'In your previous life, I was your girlfriend. Have you forgotten?' I didn't remember her being my girlfriend but things slowly came to me. People never looked at me when I spoke because they couldn't hear me. I could only be heard with the glasses. I wanted to say something, but I just couldn't think what.
Part 9-5
After a couple of minutes of thinking, I came up with a question. Something I didn't understand.
'Do you love him?' I questioned, 'Do you love Baines?' Just for a moment she had stopped crying. But after I said that, she started again.
'Of course not,' she said, 'He just wouldn't let me work for him otherwise. I'm just pretending' Thoughts went through my mind. This beauty, my wife? I returned her favour and pecked her on the cheek, she smiled at me.
'I'm Victoria,' she whispered, 'You're Steven.' I smiled at her. Now I know why back then I loved her. I forgot all about Baines, all about being a ghost. I just thought about Victoria. So beautiful, so kind, so understanding. The lady I loved and still loved. The gorgeous woman. All of my worries floated away. That was of course, until I heard the tank, the tank with Baines at the wheel.
