Part 9-2

Baines strolled into the cafe, as if he had no worries at all. He went up to the counter. He didn't have his accomplice with him but I soon realised why. His 'accomplice' was standing outside the cafe, wearing the glasses and gazing through the window. The window I was laying right next to! Baines walked away from the counter holding a pint of Guinness in one hand and a glass of red rose wine in the other. To my surprise, he walked right over to MY table and sat down opposite the girl. His feet almost squashed me. Tears began to trickle down my face at what happened next. He started flirting with her.

'So how are you darling?' he said, pushing the glass of wine across the table to her. She sipped it before pulling the sort of face you do if something is too sour. She pushed it back to him. He stared at her, the same way I had before I had to hide. He instantly noticed the glasses she was wearing.

'So, you found 'im yet?' he asked her. She blushed and glanced at me. I shook my head nervously. Was she going to betray me? When it mattered most? Read Part 9-3

'No,' she said. I smiled. Realising why I had loved her in the first place. Luckily Baines wasn't wearing the glasses so he couldn't spot me. But his assistant was! I looked out the window again. He was still using the glasses, trying to track me without luck. A sudden movement from him made my heart race through my body and almost touch my throat. He rushed over to the door, almost knocking over the water cooler as he did. Had he seen me? The girl stretched out her leg, kicking me in the face by accident. I cried silently, 'Ouch!' Baines looked up to see his 'assistant' coming towards him. His assistant shook his head and Baines instantly responded.

'So anyway, gotta go. You just tell me if you see anything,' she nodded scarecely. Baines pulled his chair backwards and strolled out the door chucking a £10 note ($20 bill) at the counter. The barmaid smiled as she caught it between her teeth. I climbed back onto the seat. It was warm from Baines' bottom. I had hundreds of questions to ask this girl, but so little time.
