I was thinking about this today and came accross this...it's a question on yahoo answers about there being a backlight on the v4.5 and how to turn it on. I'm confused because I don't remember any of the US versions having backlights...

What do you think? I'm ready to go home and try it! I don't have much hope though... The only other idea I've read is someone putting glow inthe dark paper inside a tama...

No, none of the American versions have a backlight. I'm not sure where they read that, but it would be a no. ;)

Yes, only the color tamagotchis sold in Japan are backlit so that you can actually see the color. All Connection versions are black and white, therefore are not backlit. If you read about the contrast options, though, there is a way to turn the contrast up and down so that it is easier to see.

Bummer. Wasn't there a Japanese version that was backlit with a blue light..or was it just that the pixels were blue instead of black?

I dont know if there was a blue pixel one (there might be though) but i'm pretty sure there was a red pixel one
@cmarie: You were probably thinking of a Tamagotchi with blue pixels instead of black. That one is called an UraTama.

The red-pixelled one is called an Akai. :)
