Are any versions not as fun now websites shutdown?

Hello,

I made a thread about different versions & my choice dilemma. While I was waiting for answers I was trying to see if any old threads commented on the old versions and if they are redundant now the websites are shut down.

I'm considering a V4 and was wondering how much you can do without the website?

They're still fun, but TamaTown did provide extra content as well.
