Chapter FIVE
I sat in my room on adoption day, looking out the window at the town below. I was crying wondering why Lilly left me. Maybe she just couldn’t take it or take me. I think that maybe she never liked me anyways, But maybe she did, but I’m just scaring myself. I got up and walked over to the dresser. I took a tissue off of the dresser and wiped the tears from my face. I took a brush and brushed my hair, and put on my best outfit. I looked my best for adoption day, otherwise known as “Departing Day” We all call it departing day, because we lose a lot of our friends during this. It took a lot of guts to go through with it without crying. I heard Ms.Sharon going through the halls knocking on everyone’s doors. I waited until she knocked on my door, then I opened the door and stood there. Ashamed to be an orphan. I looked down the hall at Kailia and Shayla, who were talking to Kevin and Oliver. They stopped talking and walked over to me. They forced a smile to show that it was okay. Kevin put his arm around me like a brother, and then he hugged me. We walked down the hall together, his arm over my shoulder and my head leaned against his. We walked into the room together. We entered a room filled with adults, cooing over the babies and toddlers. Some were pointing at me and Kevin, but only one family really stood out.
The woman was very very skinny, and very pretty. Her hair was very straight, down to the bottom of her shoulder blades. She had bright spring green eyes, and the perfect smile. Her husband was tall, and slim. He had black hair, and blue eyes. He looked nice, very nice. They walked over to us and the wife said “Hello, I’m Mariah, and this is my husband, Mike.” She smiled politely and I forced a smile back and clung onto Kevin. No one had ever been so nice to me other than Lilly or my other friends. Kevin felt me clinging harder, and then he held harder onto me to. The woman smiled and laughed, “Are you two related.” I shook my head no, and Kevin did to. Apparently he was being brave because I could feel him shaking to. He was being brave because he suddenly said, “We are just best friends. This is Aroara, and I’m Kevin.” The woman smiled, and I let go of Kevin a little bit. She put her hand on my shoulder, “I know someone who would like you. She is my best friend, Kara. Kevin, I would like to adopt you though.” I clung onto him. “But.. I.. but..” I studdered on my words, and she could she that I was hurting on the thought of leaving him. “Well, we were looking for three kids anyways.. “ I smiled at the thought of having a home. “We were going to adopt two kids your age, and one new born.” The man said. Kevin said, “So, your adopting Ara to?” I smiled and said, “Ara is my nickname.” The woman nodded and hugged me, “I will finally have a daughter, and a son.” The man guided us over to the new borns, where they looked over all of the babies. “Ara, I hope you don’t mind if I call you that, wich one do you like?” my new mom asked. I smiled, I couldn’t stop. “Well, when I went to the nursery I always went to this one baby, Joshua.” The woman smiled at the name Joshua, as if something was special about it. I saw my friends, and I asked if I could go talk to them one last time, she nodded in agreement and I ran over to them. “Guys, someone is really about to adopt me and Kevin!” I squealed. I could tell they were forcing smiles, so I just went along with it. “Were being adopted too, but Oliver..” “What about Oliver?!” I said. “Well, he has to go to a new orphanage, no one wanted him and that’s his third time so..” “NO!” I exclaimed. “Ara, time to go!” I heard my mom calling. I hugged my friends and Oliver, and ran off, with tears forming in my eyes.
