    ROM Versions

Spanish versions are rare enough in English speaking markets that we don't get to see Spanish ROM versions very often - though today a helpful user on the Tamagotchi Collectors Discord revealed two new version screens: The Spanish V1 - assuming there weren't any later Spanish V1 versions - is...

TAMATOWN IS BACK! (parsed swf files)

Did you at least get the filenames? It might be helpful to collect them to put in the spreadsheet since I don't think we have the names of all the Tamatown files just yet :) It is a shame, for sure, but if you managed to find all the files - albeit unrecoverable - then it gives some hope that...

TAMATOWN IS BACK! (parsed swf files)

So was it confirmed that your PC definitely had some trace of the Tamatown files left albeit corrupted? Or was there no sign of the data at all?

I wasn't aware of this! Definitely interesting and worth investigating. I'd noticed the letter-number pairs on the battery doors too - no idea what they could mean at this point.

TAMATOWN IS BACK! (parsed swf files)

Looking forward to it! And yeah, cgi files wouldn't have been cached - any attempts to cache or archive the files just results in receiving a text file containing the output of the function. Not very helpful. Interestingly patent documents confirm that the method to generate passwords that...

TAMATOWN IS BACK! (parsed swf files)

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the revival there's no way to link the website with your device. Originally, the V3 version of Tamatown would give you a password for each item or souvenir you encounter. However, the passwords were generated using a common gateway interface file - in...

    ROM Versions

Okay, I think it's finally time to talk about those patent documents for the V1. The patents are for a "Communication Game Device", one of the patents being in Japanese and the other apparently being a translated version of the Japanese document. As such, there are a few translation errors here...

TAMATOWN IS BACK! (parsed swf files)

Okay. That's something I'll consider trying. I hope your attempts at file recovery are successful, too.

TAMATOWN IS BACK! (parsed swf files)

Wait, so I'd be finding the files but not recovering them? How does that work?

TAMATOWN IS BACK! (parsed swf files)

Pretty disappointed - I did a pretty thorough search of my old laptop which I used back in the mid-2000s and found nothing - the temporary internet files were full to the brim with cookies, but no Tamatown files. This doesn't make me very hopeful for the future of Tamatown :(  I hope my...

    V1 Connect Icon Won’t Click?

On some versions of the V1, if your Tamagotchi is a baby it won't let you access the connection menu. Once it's a child you should be able to connect them.

What's your favourite nostalgic Tamagotchi moment?

For me it would've been finding out about the V3. I was 10 at the time, and it'd been about four months since I got my first Tamagotchi. At the time, I wasn't still unaware that the V3 existed - it hadn't come to the UK just yet and I didn't have an internet connection that I could use to learn...

TAMATOWN IS BACK! (parsed swf files)

Ah, on e-Tamago I presume? If the password system is bypassed the e-Tamago swfs could potentially provide really useful resources as the e-Tamago Tamatown was really similar to international versions of Tamatown. I find it kinda weird to look at - so much is the same as Tamatown, but there's...

TAMATOWN IS BACK! (parsed swf files)

One thing which I don't think has been discussed too much in the process of archiving and preserving is that Tamatown actually had quite a number of updates - many different versions of each Tamatown were released across multiple different languages. I think, if any of us do manage to recover...

    ROM Versions

An amendment to my previous post: I asked around in the Tamagotchi Collectors Discord for manufacture dates of Euro and Aus V1s. Quickly found a wave 2 Aus shell with a manufacture date of Feb 1st 2005. A ROM test revealed its version number - 2.4. After all this time I'd assumed 2.4 was nothing...

    ROM Versions

Not sure. The problem is that so far we've only seen these V2-asset V1s in a few pictures, and we only know they exist because Kuchipatchi is seen to use his V2 closeup animation (it's possible the other characters do too but we've not proved that yet). Figuring out which ROM version they use...

    ROM Versions

So far it looks like all V3s, V4s and V4.5s have those extra zeroes, so I'm not quite sure of their purpose. Aside from the zeroes they seem to use the same format as the rest - an example being 0031308, which, when read backwards, reveals the date 2008/03/13. This is actually pretty late for a...

    ROM Versions

It does help! And with a few serial codes I think I've already figured out what they mean. And I think it's really, really cool. Let's look at a few I've collected for V1 and V2, along with their version numbers: V1 50504 - ??? - EU Wave 1 - Yellow w/ Arrows 21804 - 4.1 - US Wave 1 -...

    ROM Versions

A small update (sadly not the long post about patent documents that I'm planning, I'll get round to that soon!) Apparently, the second wave of the Tamagotchi Friends is version 8.5 00 USA, instead of being something like 8.0 01 USA. Who'd'a thunk it? Furthermore, I've been thinking about...

TAMATOWN IS BACK! (parsed swf files)

Hey everyone! Since there's so many Tamatown files to keep track of, I figured it might be useful to create a spreadsheet documenting all the known files and whether they're lost or found. If it does turn out that a few of us still have some of the missing data hiding in our temporary internet...
