You should make sure that the inside of the battery compartment is clean. Most of the 1996-97 tamas I got had leaked batteries, so I had to clean the insides. Otherwise you may have damaged it when you were taking out the screws or something. $100 for a Japanese angel though?! :o

I found a picture of the Tamagotchi in its packaging. It appears to be real. ;)

You can also just turn the lights off and on over and over until it changes to Debirutchi. I think this method works for any character except for adults.

Cool, I have the same color Osutchi and Mesutchi as you do! I hope you enjoy them; I know I did. Make sure you're careful while removing the screws because I wasn't and managed to strip some of the screws on mine. Now I can't open the battery cover of my Osutchi. D:

I guess I'll have to say that the v5 is my least favorite Tamagotchi. The games and online Earth Expo that go with it aren't all that enjoyable for me, and getting the characters that I want is too confusing. Overall, there isn't anything that I can say that I really enjoy about this Tama.

The v3 doesn't go to preschool. Only the v4 and v4.5 have that feature. ;)

I've been using my Angelgotch, and I got Takoten by ignoring it almost completely from the baby stage. I only fed it once when it was Maruten, played the game once, left the TP at zero, and always left the lights on when it was asleep.

I take care of them by feeding them and playing the games. I take them almost everywhere I go, but when I'm not using them, I store them in a safe place.

I had no idea what they were until my birthday in 2004 when one of my friends gave me a v1 as a gift.

I'm glad I'm not the only person with this problem. I've stripped the screws on two of my vintage Tamagotchis already. D:
